How To Pass The Driving Theory Test in 2021

This article is all about how you can book your DVLA theory test and pass your driving theory test in 2021. We will also cover how to pass the hazard perception test and what type of questions come up in the mock theory test.

Remember You need the following two certificates if you want to get your driving licence:

1. A driving theory test and hazard perception test
2. A practical driving exam

You have 1 hour to answer 50 multiple-choice questions.

Before the driving theory test starts you’ll get:

  1. Instructions on how the test works
  2. The chance to do some practice questions to get used to the screens

How the theory test works:

There are 50 questions and you need 43/50 to pass the exam. A question and several possible answers appear on a screen. You have to select the right answer.

The questions are taken from each of these 14 categories:

  1. Alertness
  2. Attitude
  3. Safety and your vehicle
  4. Safety margins
  5. Hazard awareness
  6. Vulnerable road users
  7. Other types of vehicles
  8. Vehicle handling
  9. Motorway rules
  10. Rules of the road
  11. Road and traffic signs
  12. Documents, Incidents
  13. Accidents and emergencies
  14. Vehicle loading

What should I be clicking on for the Hazard Perception test?

There are 7 vulnerable road users and 3 different types of vehicles. As long as you click on these you will get points:

7 Vulnerable Road Users:

  1. Elderly drivers
  2. Pedestrians
  3. New drivers
  4. Children
  5. Animals
  6. Cyclists
  7. Motorcyclists

3 other types of vehicles:

  1. Lorrys and Buses
  2. Trams
  3. Motorcyclists

When can I sit an exam?

Exam bookings are usually available within 1 month. You will need to go onto the booking website to find the latest dates and times.

What documents will I need to book the exam?

You will need your provisional licence to book these exams. 1. 9 hours revising 20 mock exams (each exam is 50 questions which is 1,000 questions in total)
2. 1 hour on hazard perception
